Basics
A short, factual glossary of the terms used on SNUS.wiki. This page is written in a neutral, encyclopedic tone — it is not marketing copy, and it does not recommend any product or brand.
Nicotine: mg/g vs. mg/pouch
Nicotine content is usually reported two ways. mg/g is the concentration of nicotine per gram of product — a measure of density, independent of how large an individual pouch or portion is. mg/pouch is the total amount of nicotine in one single pouch, which also depends on the pouch's weight. Two products can share the same mg/g value but deliver different amounts of nicotine per pouch if their pouch weights differ, and vice versa. Comparing products on only one of these two numbers can be misleading.
Declared, measured, and calculated nicotine
Nicotine figures on SNUS.wiki carry a basis where known:
- Declared — the value stated by the manufacturer on packaging or in official product documentation.
- Measured — a value obtained from independent laboratory testing of the product.
- Calculated — a value derived indirectly, for example from a concentration and a known pouch weight.
None of these is inherently more or less accurate without context, but the basis matters when comparing products from different sources.
Manufacturer strength labels are not standardized
Many brands label their own products with words like "Regular", "Strong", or "Extra Strong". These labels are set by each manufacturer on their own internal scale and are not standardized across brands — a "Strong" product from one brand may contain more or less nicotine than a "Strong" product from another. These labels should never be used to compare nicotine content between different brands; use the mg/g and mg/pouch figures for that instead.
The SnusBattle dot rating (third-party, not official)
Where shown, the "SnusBattle rating" is a 1–6 dot score from SnusBattle, an independent, third-party community rating platform. It reflects that site's own subjective rating methodology, not an official measurement, a laboratory result, or a value supplied by the manufacturer. It is shown on SNUS.wiki for reference only and is kept clearly separate from the measured/declared nicotine figures above.
Product categories
- Tobacco snus — a moist or dry smokeless tobacco product, traditionally Swedish, placed under the lip.
- Nicotine pouch — a tobacco-free pouch containing nicotine (often synthetic or extracted), fillers and flavoring, with no tobacco leaf content.
- Nicotine-free pouch — a pouch with the same format as a nicotine pouch but containing no nicotine at all.
- Caffeine pouch — a pouch delivering caffeine instead of, or alongside, other active ingredients.
- CBD pouch — a pouch containing cannabidiol (CBD), a non-intoxicating cannabis-derived compound.
Common format terms
- Mini / Slim / Large / Superslim — size and shape categories for individual pouches, generally in that ascending order of physical size, though exact dimensions vary by brand.
- White — a "white" portion is typically drier and releases more slowly, with less staining and often a milder initial sensation.
- Original (sometimes called moist or brown) — a moister portion type, generally associated with a faster release and more traditional snus character.
